I’ve found that even if you increase the field waste on a roof by 5%+, it still doesn’t mathematically allow for enough material to account for the ridge & starter material plus cutting in the valleys, hips and rake ends of the roof.

That’s why we’ve created a waste calculator on a Google Sheet for you to run the actual measurements of the roof through, to mathematically prove to the adjuster that you’ll be short on materials if you accept their premise that ridge/starter is included in the shingle waste factor.
